One of the most discouraging things about parenting is our “Picky eaters”. It can be temporary or it could last for what feels like forever. Parents get so frustrated and concerned because nutrition is very important to them and for their precious little ones. I will share a few vitamin supplements for kids so you can rest assured they are getting the nutrients they need.
I need to address what this article is not. It is not parent shaming at all. Trust me, I am there now. At the end of a long day, the last thing I want to do is argue with my kids about what they will or will not eat.
Even if your kids don’t like what you cooked today, we need to do what we can to make sure they have the nutrients they need to grow up healthy and strong.
I would tell you to just give them a vitamin but, we all know that is easier said than done. Most kids think vitamins are chalky and “yucky” hence Flintstone vitamins…
They are what they eat
Chances are you cook foods you know your kids will eat like mac and cheese, hot dogs, chicken nuggets, and fries.
While your kids are eating and getting full, they are getting ZERO of the nutrients they actually need.
I think we all realize how much kids need nutrition. That’s why this situation stresses us out so much. Parents! The amazing news is we don’t have to stress out about this. There are more options available for us and well as our little love bugs. We need to get creative and find ways to sneak in the nutrients!
There are better options now!
Gummy vitamin supplements for kids come in all flavors, shapes, and characters. Is he into Avengers? Spiderman? Cars? Does she love Princesses? My little pony? Whatever their latest obsession is, there is a gummy vitamin for it. They taste good too! As an adult, I still choose the gummy option if it’s available.

Vitamin fortified food: I love this one because by feeding your child vitamin-fortified foods, you are promoting healthy eating habits and your kids don’t even know it!
“The best nutrition-based strategy for promoting optimal health and reducing the risk of chronic disease is to wisely choose a wide variety of nutrient-rich foods.”
American Dietetic Association
Whole Foods are considered fruits, veggies, beans, nuts, seeds, and whole grains. I am confident to say if you have a picky eater on your hands, they probably don’t care for most of these.
Vitamin fortified foods are basically foods they like but with added nutrients. For example:
Peanut butter and jelly sandwich – Using Naturally More Natural Crunchy Peanut Butter Spread, which includes protein and extra vitamins along with a yummy all-natural jelly or honey with whole wheat bread that will also add extra fiber, calcium, vitamin D, and some other vitamins and minerals too is a great example of vitamin-fortified food.
Cereal – Choosing a good breakfast cereal is another good way to find vitamin-fortified food to help take the place of a vitamin. Instead of sugary cereal, give your picky eater a more vitamin-fortified cereal, such as Cascadian Farm, Kashi, or Annies.
Clif kid Zbar – This is a great snack or grab-and-go option. These snacks are organic and whole grain. Clif Kid Z bars have added fiber, protein, fat, and a blend of carbohydrates. Their products do not contain artificial flavors or high fructose corn syrup. Below is a variety pack (16 counts) or an assortment of all of Clif Kid Zbar products. Your kids will love them all!

Pasta – Pasta is my “go-to” dish when I want to do something quick and easy that everyone will love. Why not add in extra protein and vitamins just by purchasing a different brand. Most protein pasta is packed with twice as much protein and vitamins as traditional pasta.
A good example of this is POW! Pasta. It is packed with plant-based protein such as beans, lentils, and ancient grains.
Parents, don’t get discouraged. It is only a phase. In the meantime, just do what you can to make sure they get what they need.

These are great suggestions! I have both a very picky 3 year-old, and a 1 yr old who will eat anything…not sure what happened there! Anyway, I give my picky eater a packet of carnation every morning with her milk, that way I feel a little better about her living on crackers and uncrustables.
Hi Antonia! Im so glad you took the time to comment. I agree 100% with you! Doing these small things to help our sweet pick eaters get a little extra nutrients makes us feel better about choices we will make throughout the day.
Oh I love Pow! Noodles, they give you that extra protein with your dinner. My oldest is so picky so this post is extremely helpful!
Thank you for reading and commenting! POW noodles are amazing! I agree.
I’m a picky eater and so is my oldest! I love these recommendations!
Thank you! I did write this for kids but with us adult “picky eaters” in mind. We could all use a little extra nutrients!
EJ has only just begun eating solids but I’m terrified for when he’s old enough to start deciding if he doesn’t like something. These are wonderful tips I will be keeping in my back pocket!
I have a baby who is 10 months old who is turning into a picky eater on certain conditions based on texture. I hope this is something that does not carry-on until she’s a toddler. If it does gummy vitamins will probably be my first thing I’d pick up .
We are dealing with a picky 2 year old at the moment. It doesn’t help that she is already underweight. We are actually doing most of the things on your list so that makes me feel good 🙂 I haven’t seen the kids clif bars yet – will have to look for them!
Great suggestions! My kids love all of those cereals!
These are great suggestions! Peanut butter and jelly & Cereal are both go to meals for my picky eater!
Great ideas and suggestions! I have a few picky eaters at home and it can get tiring trying to force good food. Sneaking some good veggies, protein, and fruits into meals/dishes can also help.
Great ideas! My son has random weeks when he just refuses to eat anything, but will gladly drink anything I hand him. On those week, we have nutritional drinks and smoothies everyday. I am so thankful that (for now) he has other weeks when he stuffs his mouth with whatever food I give him.
Such a great post, all moms should read this.
THANK YOU. IM SO GLAD YOU ENJOYED IT
I have a 3 1/2 yr old boy who extremely picky eater with a issue with textures. Orion has Down Syndrome, I’m not sure that has anything to do with his pickiness. I have 2 other kids who are adults now they had now eating issues going up.
These are great idea’s peanut butter and jelly his go to sometimes twice a day. 🤦🏻♀️ His other go to is McDonalds chicken nuggets and fries.
He doesn’t eat any cereal hot, cold or dry. No pasta at all except chef boyardee and lately been refusing that too. He eats absolutely no vegetables even the cute shapes. He literally gags when certain things eggs, mashed potatoes, oatmeal and lots of others.
Orion was 38lbs at his last check up. Weight has to be keep in check as some kids with Down Syndrome tend to become overweight.
All suggestions on foods and vitamins are welcomed!
Thanks in advance!
Angela~aka Orion’s Mom
Hi Angela! Thank you for sharing. At this point in your journey, all you can do is feed him what he will eat while still trying to add in small portions of healthy options. As he gets older, his choices will change. If he likes fruit, give him fruit with his favorite chicken nuggets instead of the fries. A good children’s gummy multivitamin will help also. It will give him the nutrients he is missing from the foods he eats. My kids like these https://geni.us/CjyjYWA SmartyPants Vitamins. If he likes shakes and smoothies I would recommend doing one for kids that is yummy flavored and has vitamins and minerals. I really hope this helps. Good luck to you both. https://www.optimizedlife.com
