If there is one thing that stands out about self-care today it’s preventatives. People now more than ever are investing in their overall health and wellness. More individuals today are taking care of their bodies and doing certain things to reduce the chances of getting sick. I’m not just talking about just physical. I’m also referring to mental, emotional, and relational health as well. All aspects! In this article, you will find the top 5 things people learned to make a priority after isolation and how people are Optimizing their Life post covid.
#1 Scientifically Based All-Natural Products & Supplements As Prevenatives
People are going back to the basics and doing things our grandparent’s parents use to do to treat or prevent certain health conditions. They are doing things like making bone broth, honey for a sore throat, drinking apple cider vinegar, and other old-school health remedies. Here are a few of the most popular home remedies making a comeback in 2022.
Peppermint Oil For Headaches
Essential oils can be used for so many things. Peppermint oil is the #1 used and purchased essential oil and it’s because of headaches.
When peppermint essential oil is mixed with olive oil and gently massaged on the forehead and temples of someone who is suffering from a headache, it cools the skin and numbs the pain and tension. Studies show this technique can be just as effective as taking acetaminophen.
A bottle of peppermint essential oil is good to keep on hand.
Sugar For Hiccups
I had no idea about this one but as a mom with multiple kids, I feel like someone always has the hiccups, and kids are loud with theirs. I normally say “hold your breath” or “drink some water” but that doesn’t work. I bet if I said “go get you a spoonful of sugar and eat it” they would want hiccups more often!
The reason sugar helps is because of its grainy texture. When you swallow sugar crystals you are forced to swallow harder than usual causing the spasms or hiccups to stop.
Ginger For Nausea
There’s nothing worse than the feeling of nausea. It can put a damper on your day. The next time you feel your tummy getting a little queazy, grab some ginger. Ginger is said to reduce nausea by “obstructing serotonin receptors” located in the gut and signals to your body the need to release certain enzymes that help break down food. Gin Gins are chewable ginger and are pretty tasty in my opinion. Keep a few in your purse or car just in case you find yourself with tummy trouble.
C60 For Overall Health & Wellness Optimization
Think of C60 as the ultimate antioxidant. It has two ingredients which are carbon 60 and oil. The oil is mixed with carbon 60 just so you can consume it. Carbon 60 is a newly discovered soccer-shaped molecule that was discovered back in the ’80s by a couple of guys who actually ended up winning the noble peace prize for this discovery. The shape is important to mention because it’s the main reason C60 is so powerful. I honestly could write a book on this product but to keep it short I will just add that C60 has a long list of potential benefits after being researched and studied over the past 20 years but the two main benefits we could get from C60 is it reduces inflammation and gets rid of free radicles. When you eliminate those two things, you will naturally see other benefits and feel healthier.
If you would like more information on Carbon 60 I have written many blog posts and reviews on it. You can find them here: https://www.optimizedlife.com/category/c60/

#3 Actually Reading Books
Yeah, that’s right reading an actual book instead of listening to it can increase lifespan by 2 years. Good books that engage the reader’s mind provide cognitive benefit, therefore, increasing the lifespan.
Sitting down with a warm cup of tea or coffee in your favorite quiet place is so relaxing and reduces stress.
Regardless of your age, reading 4 hours a week can also:
- Improves cognitive function
- Lowers blood pressure
- Improves sleep quality
So, what are you waiting for? Join a book club or sign up for a library card and find a cozy local little coffee shop and get reading!
#4 Prioritizing Self Care
Self-care takes intention and scheduling appointments with yourself. If we don’t, we can go days putting our work, kids, spouse (and whoever else may cross our path) needs before ours. We need to be filled so we can give to others.
Here are some things people are doing to make sure they are prioritizing self-care throughout their week.
- Schedule time to workout
- Give yourself grace. You are doing your best!
- Have realistic expectaions for yourself and others around
- Eat a healthy diet
- Talk to yourself in a positive way
- Take time to unplug form social media
- Take 15 minutes each day to do whatever you want
- Get Some Sleep!
- Get outside and enjoy nature
- Find a hobby
Start off by doing a few a day then increase the list from there.
Remember, other people will not see your self-care as important. You will need to make sure you prioritize your wellbeing and mental health over others so that you can live an optimized life.
#5 Mental & Social Health
Who you surround yourself with matters tremendously to your mental health. Taking time to unwind and be around non-toxic friends and family is good for your health and self-esteem.
If you are around people who are jealous of you, they may not say it but they will find ways to criticize you or make negative comments. Eventually, it will make you feel bad about yourself even if you haven’t done anything wrong. You might even start becoming more negative yourself. It’s natural to change and be like the people you are around the most. That’s why we have to be very careful who we surround ourselves with.
Ain’t Nobody got time for that!
Added bonus, they will support and encourage you to be the best you can be.
Look at the characteristics of the 5 people that are closest to you. Are they energy suckers? Are they constantly complaining? Or are they encouraging and positive? Do they have good marriages? Do they have a great relationship with their children? Take a close look because this is how you will eventually become so make sure you have some good influences around you.
Ah, here is another good self-reflecting moment…
How do you make people feel? What kind of influence are you? Are you a glass half empty or half full person? These are good questions to ask yourself.
Make sure you schedule time each week to foster your mental and social health by grabbing a cup of coffee with a good friend or inviting family over for Sunday dinner. Nurture and water the relationships in your life that matter. Make sure they know how much they mean to you and you appreciate their involvement in your life.
2022 could be a good year. 2022 has to be a good year. No wait, 2022 IS and WILL be a great year!
If we look at the past couple of years and find ways to learn from what we have been through as well as make a few small changes in our current lifestyle, we can reduce and even prevent the amount of mental, social, and physical stress we put on our bodies.
Now it’s time to hear from you!
